Abstract
| The aim of this talk is to use the tools presented one week before and see the explicit construction of the hyperbolic structure on the figure-eight complement, due to Riley (1975). The idea is to construct a hyperbolic 3-manifold whose fundamental group is isomorphic to the group of the figure-eight complement. Topological arguments (theorem of Waldhausen) lead to a homeomorphism between the two manifolds. We will also give a small survey of some related subjects (Mostow rigidity, Thurston geometrization, Kashaev volume conjecture) |
