Abstract
| In 1975, Riley produced the explicit hyperbolic structure on the figure-eight complement. This was the first example of hyperbolization of a knot complement. The goal of this talk is to give a survey of the necessary material to understand its algebraic and geometric aspects. We will mainly deal with 3 topics : knots (their complement, Wirtinger presentation), hyperbolic geometry (isometries, Kleinian groups, 3-manifolds), and the Poincare polyhedron theorem. |
