Abstract
| Stationary spacetimes in general relativity are Lorentzian signature Einstein manifolds which possess a timelike Killing vector field. The general approach to studying these manifolds is to use the timelike symmetry to perform "dimensional reduction." We instead look at the prolongation of the Einstein condition and the (conformal) Killing equation from the point of view of conformal tractor calculus. I will discuss the prolongation approach and it's relationship to the dimensional reduction approach, particularly for the static case where the orthogonal distribution to the Killing vector field is integerable. |
