Short Saturday Courses in 2008

These CMCT courses will focus on developing teachers' understanding of key topics in the curriculum. These courses will be particularly useful to teachers who are wanting to enhance their confidence in delivering more challenging aspects of the curriculum or to extend their teaching range. All the workshops will be presented by Dr Judy Paterson and work in the workshops will be supported by experienced tutors.

Each of these courses will focus on developing:

  • a sound understanding of the content
  • the ability to understand students’ questions in the domain
  • the language needed to explain and elaborate key ideas
  • the ability to make connections between ideas and concepts
  • fluency in using different representations

Each course will consist of two four-hour workshops that will run on Saturdays from 10:30 – 3:00 with a break for lunch. Cost per course $250 plus GST

Term Four: Geometry and Trigonometry in Years 11, 12, 13

We will cover aspects of Achievement Standards 1.4 and 1.8, 2.4 and 2.9, 3.3 and 3.5.

Dates: Saturdays 22nd and Saturday 29th of November from 10:30 - 3:15 with breaks for lunch and tea.

Venue: The city campus of Auckland University – Room 222 in Building 303.

Past courses


Year 12 and 13 Calculus

Mathematics Department, 38 Princes Street. Dates: 5th April and 12th April.

Years 11, 12 and 13 Probability

Dates: Saturday 7th and Saturday 21st June from 10:30 – 3:15

This course was particularly useful for teachers who wanted to enhance their confidence in delivering the curriculum or to extend their teaching range.

The focus was on developing:

  • an understanding of key concepts
  • the ability to ask and answer questions about probability
  • language needed to explain and elaborate key ideas
  • connections between ideas and concepts
  • fluency in using different representations

We concentrated on Achievement Standards 1.6, 2.6, 3.3 and parts of 3.6.
