Dynamics: Numerical Explorations

Dynamics is designed for the exploration of two-dimensional maps, both diffeomorphisms and noninvertible maps. Dynamics has its own homepage where you can find descriptions of the different tools and demo's of what the program can do. Also check out the pictures in the Chaos Gallery to get an idea.

Dynamics is not free of charge. You can obtain the software by buying the book Dynamics: Numerical Explorations. There is a free, sort of demo version available, called SmallDyn. SmallDyn is slower than the latest version of Dynamics, but certainly faster than the old one. SmallDyn can be downloaded from the web, but this link is dead (last time I checked it was). Note that the manual for SmallDyn is, of course, the book Dynamics: Numerical Explorations, and the novice user definitely needs it. SmallDyn works on PC only; Dynamics runs on both PC and Unix.

Contact person for Dynamics is Jim Yorke ( yorke2@ipst.umd.edu)
