The Faculty of Science and the Department of Mathematics are offering a number of scholarships for undergraduate and graduate students to work as research assistants in the Department during the summer holidays. Successful students will work in the Department for 10 weeks and receive a scholarship of $5000. Follow the link below to find what projects are offered for this summer.

Here is the list of summer scholarship topics offered by the mathematics department for 2010.

Who is eligible

The criteria on which these scholarships will be awarded include students’ academic records and their potential to contribute to work in a research group. Priority will be given to undergraduate students who have taken some stage 3 courses in Mathematics, who will be returning to Auckland University in 2011, and who have not previously held a summer scholarship. If you are already involved in research or have a particular project in mind, this will be an advantage. Note that students currently enrolled for a PhD are not eligible.

How to apply

If you are interested in applying for one of these scholarships, speak to one or more of the supervisors named on the list of projects in the link above. For further queries, speak to other members of the Department or contact: Dr Steven Galbraith Rm 303.501, Ext 88778, homepage

Application forms are available online or from Department of Mathematics Office (Rm 303). You must provide a copy of your academic record with your application.

Applications close on Friday August 27, 2010, but you are encouraged to get your applications in earlier.
