Monday April 6 was a sad day for the Department and the Mathematics community: after a short illness (Emeritus) Associate Professor Mavina Krishna Vamanamurthy had passed away. He would have been 75 in a few months time.

Vaman was a wonderful and gentle colleague. His mathematical interests were broad; he surely has collaborative research papers with more members or former members of the Department than anyone else in its history.

If you wanted to know anything about analysis or topology he would probably come up with the answer. At the same time he had some very deep results in a long collaborations colleagues in the USA and Finland.

A memorial ceremony was held on Wednesday 8 April, at the Mahatma Gandhi Centre, Eden Terrace

Emeritus Professor John Butcher shared some Mathematicians' memories about Vaman at this ceremony
