Assistance and Support

The Department offers a wide range of types of support and assistance.

Amongst the various options related to learning there are:

  • Assistance room for Undergraduate Students (particularly Stages I and II)
  • One-to-one tutoring for Stage I students (MATHS 101, MATHS 102, MATHS 108)
  • Tuakana programme - A Maori and Pacific Islands students tutoring/mentoring programme
  • Computer laboratory staffed with demonstrators for mapple and other computer-related questions
  • Office Hours held by lecturers, related to the particular courses they lecture
  • Supplementary tutorials for some of the Stage I courses
  • Advice from the Undergraduate and Graduate Advisors, concerning the choice of courses or majors


Financial assistance may be in the form of:

  • Summer research scholarships
  • Aldis grants for Maori and Pasific Island school leavers
  • Teaching assistance jobs:
Assignments marking, Tutoring, Assistance Room tutoring, Computer Lab demonstrating tasks that our good students may apply for.

  • Tutoring and Lecturing for selected graduate or PhD students
  • Research, travel and conference grants for PhD students
