Auckland Mathematical Olympiad
The Mathematical Olympiad is an annual Mathematics competition for high school students.
The Auckland Mathematical Olympiad (AMO) is again being hosted by the Department of Mathematics at the University of Auckland. The aims of this Olympiad are to foster interest in Mathematics, and to encourage young people who attend schools in our Auckland region with an opportunity to exhibit their problem solving skills by meeting various challenges put to them by mathematicians.
2024 information
The 2024 AMO will take place on Saturday 11 May from 10am-12pm.
To register, please complete the form below and email it as an attachment to Joy Rane (joy.rane@auckland.ac.nz) by 4pm Friday 3 May.
Helpful resources
There are ten problems in the AMO. The first five questions are aimed at years 9 to 11 (juniors), while the second five questions are aimed at years 12 to 13 (seniors). However, all ages are encouraged to attempt as many questions as possible.
A team of twenty-four markers grade the students’ solutions, ranking them from 0 (no progress) to 3 (a correct solution with evidence).

The New Zealand competition
In the lead up to the selection of each year's New Zealand's team, the New Zealand Mathematical Olympiad Committee (NZMOC) organises a graduated programme of competitions, camps and coaching for mathematically talented high school students.
The international competition
The Mathematical Olympiad is an annual international competition for high school students. Each participating nation sends a six-student team.
