DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS

University of Auckland Tertiary Foundation Certificate Mathematics

All of the tutors in the UoATFC design and administer their own courses.
Sheena Parnell, Helen McKenzie, and Moira Statham are the three Mathematics tutors.

They can be found on the third floor of the Mathematics Building, part of the Science Centre.
Sheena and Moira are in Room 324 , phone 3737599, extension 85750.
Helen is in Room 325, phone 3737599, extension 88789.

All of the tutors are available for extra help if it is needed.

The mathematics course is designed to prepare students to enter the Stage One Mathematics courses Maths101 or Maths102, depending on the standard reached by individual students.
It is also possible for students to go into Stage One Statistics and Stage One Computer Science.

Students should note that the UoATFC Mathematics courses are not equivalent to Bursary mathematics, but will strengthen understanding of underlying concepts.
This has been shown to make future success in gaining credit at Stage One possible.

Mathematics is taught for five hours each week in small classes of about thirty students. As far as possible, there is one hour of mathematics every day of the week.
It is expected that students will do regular homework.
