Abstract
Disclaimer: Talk is aimed at graduate and Honours students with background in Differential Geometry but no obvious link to curvature flow. Experts welcome. Feel free to bring coffee! The aim of this talk is to give a short and fast overview of Mean Curvature Flow. We start with its history and relation to other second order flows, followed by the DeTurck trick for obtaining short time existence. We give examples and discuss homothetic and graphical solutions. We briefly touch on types of singularities and PDE tools such as the maximum and comparison principles. We conclude with Huisken's result on convex hypersurfaces flowing to spheres as the main singularity theorem and the Ecker-Huisken entire graphs result as one theorem on long time existence behaviour. The talk is not designed to cover all material on the flow but mainly to give the flavour of techniques and approaches used in curvature flow.
