Abstract
Putting together a balanced schedule for a sports tournament can be tricky. In this talk we point out some difficulties for various kinds of tournaments and provide some solutions using unusual geometric objects. We give concrete examples. We also explain how one can put together a football championship calendar, and discuss the properties (advantages/disadvantages) of the various ways this can be done.   Finally, we touch upon side problems such as ideal ways to make formations that carry the national flag during the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic games.
