MATHS 332 - Real analysis

Welcome to the homepage for Maths 332.

Analysis in 2011

The third year courses Maths 332 and Maths 333 (which follows on from it) are the department's introduction to analysis.
They will be taught over the next few years by the following staff

who you can contact for advice.

These courses are the assumed background for many of our graduate courses.

Maths 332

Real Analysis (Semester 1)

Prerequisites: Maths 253 and 255, or 253 and a B+ in Maths 260

Textbook: Introduction to Real Analysis, R. G. Bartle and D. Sherbert, 2000, and one for free.

Lecturers: Rod Gover, Warren Moors

Class times: The class meets at 9am on Monday, Tuesday (Building 803 Room 210), Thursday in Building 803 room 210. There are Tutorials on Tuesdays 10-11am and 11-noon in Building 804 room 103 and in Building 104 room G07 (Old Choral Hall).

Assignments: There will be four assignments due at 4pm on Wed 16 March, Wed 30 March, Wed 4 May, and Wed 25 May.

Midterm Test: There will be a test in the evening of Thursday 28 April (Room and time to be announced).

Exam: Date to be announced.

Assessment: The final grade will be calculated: 20% assignments, 20% test, 60% final exam, or 100% on the final exam, whichever is the maximum.

Syllabus: We will follow the text book quite closely, covering: the real numbers, sequences and series, limits, continuous functions, differentiation, the Riemann integral, sequences of functions and infinite series.
