NZMS Visiting Lectureship

Each year the NZ Mathematical Society coordinates and provides some financial support for a tour of New Zealand universities by a visiting mathematician. Usually this person - known as the NZMS Visiting Lecturer - will spend 2 to 3 days at each of the six main university centres (Dunedin, Christchurch, Wellington, Palmerston North, Hamilton and Auckland), and give at least two lectures at each place: one for a general audience, and one more closely tied to his or her own special research interests.

Recent NZMS Visiting Lecturers include Professor John Loxton (Macquarie) in 1992, Professor Andreas Dress (Bielefeld) in 1993, Dr Colin Maclachlan (Aberdeen) in 1994, Professor Roger Grimshaw (Monash) in 1995, and Professor Valerie Isham (University College London) in 1996. The 1997 NZMS Visiting Lectureship is currently being arranged.

Nominations for the 1998 NZMS Visiting Lectureship are now being requested by the NZMS Council. Names of suitable candidates, along with a brief description of their current position and field(s) of interest, should be sent by 29 August 1997 to the NZMS Secretary:
