Abstract
| The use of algebra in spreadsheets, whilst clear to mathematicians, is often invisible to the spreadsheet users themselves. In 2012, I undertook a research project investigating the perceptions and uses of algebra by three people using spreadsheets in their workplaces. What I discovered gave insight not only into the ways in which the use of spreadsheets was influencing the algebraic thought of the users, but also the fact that the nature of the work they were undertaking had a profound impact on the shape of their mathematical thinking. |
