Arithmetic and analysis on locally symmetric spaces Peter Sarnak (Princeton) Analysis on arithmetic locally symmetric spaces is at the heart of many developments and applications of the modern theory of automorphic forms. These applications include ones to classical problems of number theory, and recently to mathematical physics. Especially active are questions of equidistribution of arithmetic and geometric objects on these spaces. In these lectures we plan to describe some of the basic arithmetic, analytic and ergodic theoretic tools which have been effectively used in the theory. We hope to describe a few applications as well.
